Elijah of Buxton

In this chapter book readers will meet Elijah, a young African American boy born free in a time of slavery. Elijah and his family are living in Canada after they had escaped slavery in the United States. Due to his quirky nature Elijah is not well thought of in their community, he is called names at times and gets made fun of by the other people in their community. One day one of Elijah’s friends gets money stolen from him that he had intended to use to buy some family member’s freedom from the United States. The reader follows Elijah through the journey of trying to find his friend’s money and all of the exploits that arise from this endeavor.
